Honors B.S., Math & Physics, University of British Columbia · 12+ years tutoring

Hi, I'm Ben, founder of Blue Summit Tutors. I have a combined honors degree in Math and Physics from the University of British Columbia, and I've spent the last 12 years—closer to 15 on and off—tutoring students through AP Physics and calculus. What started as one-on-one sessions in Vancouver, built entirely through word of mouth, grew into a full-time business about two years ago, and then into Blue Summit Tutors.

I believe a 5 on the AP exam comes from genuine understanding, not memorized formulas—the goal is a student who can reason through a problem they've never seen before, not just recognize one they have. That's the standard I hold myself to, and it's the standard I look for in every tutor I bring onto this team.

My wife and I recently relocated our family to Columbia, Maryland, where we homeschool our kids. When I'm not tutoring or building Blue Summit Tutors, you'll find me with them.

Miranda

B.S. Physics, Elon University · 22 years in the classroom

Hi, I'm Miranda! I'm a veteran physics teacher with 22 years of classroom experience and a passion for making complex ideas click. I have a B.S. in Physics from Elon University and I'm certified in secondary science. As a lead physics teacher in my district, I don't just teach physics; I help shape how it's taught by developing curriculum and mentoring other physics teachers.

My tutoring philosophy is built around problem-solving and confidence. I strive to meet students exactly where they are, guide them through meaningful, productive struggle, and push them toward those rewarding “aha!” moments. It takes time, practice and dedication, but seeing a student transform from frustrated to confident is worth every second.

I live in North Carolina with my husband, two kids, and three dogs. When I'm not demystifying physics, you can find me spending time with family, reading, crocheting, playing guitar, or working on house projects.

Political Science & Mathematics, George Washington University (Physics minor)

I am a senior at George Washington University where I have spent the last two years in the classroom as a high-impact math tutor. I am majoring in political science and mathematics, with a minor in physics, and intend to pursue a career in STEM education following graduation.

An excellent AP Physics teacher helped me fall in love with math and science during my high school years, and I was lucky to have had the opportunity to take AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Physics C: E&M as a student. Passionate about STEM and education, I am excited to be tutoring with Blue Summit Tutors.
